It has been about a year since I relocated from my hometown of Philadelphia to my new home in the South. Although adapting to my new city has been slow it seems to be happening. I still do feel nostalgia for my hometown and all of the special memories that it holds in my heart, after all it is the city of brotherly love. I did a few layouts in honor of my one year anniversary and also to honor my beloved town.

As a kid I loved a good bug hunt. I even had a little cage where I could capture bugs of all shapes and sizes with no fear. Looking back I wonder, what was I thinking? I now see a worm on the sidewalk and loose my mind. Recently, I had a few close encounters with some creepy crawlers that really could give anyone nightmares. One of the good things about the colder months is all of those lovely insects fade away like the heat. I came across these fantastic tiles that are inspired by our creepy crawly friends, which are suprisingly quite lovely and inspirational. What an interesting perspective.

You know summer is beginning to wind down when Christmas decorations are starting to appear on store shelves and pumpkin spice lattes are on the menu at Starbucks. With fall just around the corner, I think it’s important to soak up every minute of the few warm days we have left. I love getting some fresh air and clearing my head with a long walk around my neighborhood or a near by park. I am in no way an outdoorsy type but spending a day taking in the local landscape is a great way to spend a couple of hours on a warm summer day.

This coming weekend I will be heading to the Baltimore Comic Con. This is certainly something I never expected to be doing because I was never that into comics but my husband has tried to change that. To my suprise the convention is filled with some of the best artists in the country. Some truly talented people will be there sketching away. In any event this will be my second year at the event and after a great weekend last year I am very much looking forward to this weekend. We have a table reserved, pieces to show and lots conversation to share. I am very excited to meet other artists in the “artists alley.” However, the real reason I don’t mind the long trek up north to Baltimore is because of the crabcakes that is certainly a great reason to take a long weekend in this town!
Letters to Betsy will be at the Artist Alley Table A118.Come visit and Pick up a print or two while you are there. I hope to see you all there!

I apologize for being away the last few days but life has gotten the best of me it seems. I am back in action and here we go with a fabulous new post. The one thing I love to have as decor in my kitchen is a clock. I think it is not only something that is necessary for the aesthetic but also to keep track of life. Now that people use there mobile devices to check the time there is something nostalgic about sitting around having dinner and checking the time on a wall clock instead of your cell phone. I think picking the right one with your decor can also be a challenge because there are so many fun things you can do to help spice up your wall decor.

If you are one of the lucky people that has a sprawling backyard with plenty of room to roam, you may also have a hammock out there somewhere. I am one of the luck ones. I grew up with a very spacious backyard; however, the one thing we were always missing was a hammock. Hammocks are a great place to relax under the trees with some lemonade and a book and waste away the day. What a way to spend a summer, spring or even a fall day. Here a few fabulous hammocks so you to can relax in hammock heaven! Green and Blue Heaven The Sling The Portable On the Dock Hammock Picture Perfect

Besides doing art on computer, I also enjoy using paint. I fell in love with block printing when I was in High School because I really think it is a unique art and I enjoy the fact that you can replicate your art over and over and it is all done with simple line cuts and waterbased paint. I also love that there is always imperfections within the final work. The true skill is to carve the lines in such a way so they are not to deep or too shallow. You can take away but you can not add so it is certainly a skill to find the perfect balance between. These are a few that I have worked on recently as I try to get my groove back. Literally. Like the art of wood blocking my work is a work in progress.

Coming home to comfortable furniture that you can relax in and feel at home in is certainly a priority. One item, besides the standard couch and table, that is necessary is the arm chair. I love me a big ole’ arm chair. I really don’t care if it’s leather, fabric or even a recliner. As long as I can curl my whole body up with a blanket and a bowl of popcorn, I am all set. I have one of these chairs in my living room and I really am not sure how I lived without it.
What do you think of these?

Every summer my family and I visit the beach and we always take our family pictures in front of the lovely lifeguard boats. Until I was older, I always thought every beach was equipped with these lovely boats but that’s not the case. How lucky are we to have such an amazing piece of art work which also is used to save lives. I have actually never seen these boats used for anything else but practicing and hauling equipment up and down the beach at sunrise and sunset. Still it’s something that many whom visit the New Jersey beaches enjoy and will be featured in many family portraits for years and years to come.

Modern art is always quite amazing to take in. It tends to be art that is contreversial and thought provoking. Artists who are able to accomplish a well received modern piece are able to use all of the traditional techniques as well as bringing in the modern twist. Recently I came accross quite the interesting modern installation at a local modern museum. Franco Mondini-Ruiz has done just that used art that is historical relvant while adding a modern twist. The twist wrapping traditional art pieces in fried food such as donuts, hamburgers and candies. All the while making pieces a great balance between traditional art and the modern world which may seem more relevant to us all junk food.
This exhibit can currently be viewed at the McColl Center of Visual Arts
